ABOUT US

Heritage Calgary is a charitable Civic Partner of The City of Calgary focused on the research, education, and preservation of our shared heritage in Calgary. We believe heritage is a dynamic process by which identity is experienced, interpreted, and represented and take pride in working with Calgarians to honour the fabric that we are all a part of.

Community members are volunteers (non-board members) that serve on one of Heritage Calgary’s three committees: Audit & Finance, Governance & Human Resources, and Strategy.

  • Audit & Finance is responsible for reviewing financial statements, reviewing accounting and financial policies, internal controls, financial reporting and supporting the CEO on financial matters.

  • Governance & HR is responsible for the overall governance of the organization and supporting the CEO on human resource matters.

  • Strategy is responsible for the monitoring and tracking of the strategic plan, all external relationships including government, partnerships etc. and risk management.

COMMITTEE RECRUITMENT

Our goal is to recruit Community Members that reflect a broad diversity of experiences, perspectives, knowledge, connections, and skills to help Heritage Calgary carry out its governance, planning, stewardship, and ambassador functions. As a charity, Heritage Calgary is seeking Community Members that have a unique combination of skills and knowledge from both business and/or non-profit perspectives.

SKILLS WE ARE SEEKING

We are currently recruiting Community Committee Members who have skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Governance & Human Resources Committee – we are seeking an individual(s) with experience in one or more of the following areas: policy development, legal, governance or human resources experience. CHRP designation would be considered an asset.

  • Audit & Finance Committee – we are seeking an individual(s) with experience in nonprofit financial matters including budgeting, internal controls and reading & understanding financial statements. Not-for-profit audit experience would be considered an asset. CPA or other accounting designation is required.

  • Strategy Committee – we are seeking an individual(s) with experience in one or more of the following areas: government relations, community engagement, stakeholder relations. Experience in strategic planning would be considered an asset.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR COMMITTEE MEMBERS THAT

  • Are team players that can contribute to positive and productive conversations.

  • Show a commitment/interest/passion for a city that understand and values its diverse heritage.

  • Are strategic thinkers with innovative ideas and the ability to see the big picture.

  • Have previous Board experience (would be considered an asset).

  • Can commit 8-10 hours per quarter.

LENGTH OF TERM & RESPONSIBILITIES

Our Committee Members commit approximately eight to ten hours per quarter, including preparation and participation in Committee meetings monthly. Committee members commit to a one-year team, with opportunity for renewal. While not guaranteed, participation on a committee is an asset in applying to future board positions.
